Why don't you settle in (down?)
Well it has been two weeks since I have moved. Everything has gone fairly smoothly up until this morning. Maybe it is that I have gone about 2 weeks since doig laundry or maybe i just "lost" a garment bag, but I couldn't find a single thing to wear this morning. Especially pants. And I have about 10-15 lonely wooden hangars taking up space in the closet.
No worries though, if the only thing I am missing is a couple of pants, well, the world won't stop. Plus, I am leaving for mini-vacation on Friday to spend a hot weekend in New Orleans. As with all of my trips, I plan to eat my way through the city, devouring anything and everything from po' boys to coffee and pastries. Two days and counting. Crawfish and Oysters. :-)

Three, Two, One - Moved!
Before I lost mind, I had settled on using movers. Then somewhere along the line, deciding that I didn't own that much stuff, I would move myself. That is the precise moment I lost my mind. Three days, two cars and one zipcar pickup truck later, I finally moved all of my stuff five minutes from apartment to my new place. Almost all of the large furniture was donated to the Salvation Army. Everything else, which took seven people to move into my old place was all moved by two people. This past July fourth weekend proved to be the longest and most exhausting ever.
The move was not entirely terrible. I got a chance to get sandwiches from the sub shop that closes at 3pm. These sandwiches are the closest I have gotten to the New Jersey Italian hoagies of my youth. Then there was the zipcar, once of the best inventions of all time. If you live in DC, NYC, Boston or Chapel and you don't have a car, check it out. I was able to reserve a pickup truck (which was extremely fun driving) and lug my furniture down the street, without the pain of renting a moving truck. The best part was dropping it off at the metro station and taking the train home, rather than having another person with me to drive me home. They even mini coopers throughout the city, which I can't wait to reserve for a little weekend trip away!

Farewell Letters
Now that my nightmare called "The Move" is over, it is time to say goodbye to those who have influenced my life over the past year.
Dear Next Door Neighbor,
I will not miss your diabolical laughter nor your 11:00pm romps. I have new neighbors that aren't quite as loud.
Dear House Neighbors,
What can I say? I learned a lot about DC from you. I didn't appreciate all of your comments, though. Sometimes folks just want to walk to work uninterrupted.
Dear Guys on the Corner,
Stop what you are doing. It's not good for you or the community. There are places that will teach you the skills you need to get a job. Anything is possible.
