Enough!
I have had enough of the complaining (not mine of course!). These whiney, college-educated women on a listserve I belong to will not shut up about how poorly they have it. That's right, poorly they have it. Many have 4 year degrees and good jobs making more than the national average but they can't get beyond themselves to see how great of a situation they are in. I live in DC, not the cheapest place in the world to live with houses selling upwards of a $1 million+ in my neighborhood. But, it is the nation's capital and housing should be expensive.
What I can't stand is listening to people complain about their situation. The DC metropolitan area has a high concentration of educated people, great jobs and expensive housing. The unemployement rate has been lower than most areas in the US. Housing costs are rising here. So, what I have to say to these complainers is this:
If you want to leave the DC area in search of lower paying jobs and cheaper housing, then go for it! All the more jobs for people who appreciate them. If you can't handle metropolitan living, then leave! I am sick of the crazy suburban commuters wreaking havoc my city streets and not paying paying a dime to fix them! Take your college degrees and just leave! No one is forcing you to stay anywhere. All of these women have freedom and choice. USE IT! Empower yourself instead of throwing a pity party. Your "poor me" story isn't going to fly when you move to that rural community where you make half your salary, which is still more than what the average family of four will make in a year.
You don't have to lower your standards, just re-evaluate your expectations.

The Random Thoughts of Writer Guy
- Have you seen the 10-10-220 commercials? They feature ALF? Now that must have been one heck of a meeting. Picture this: a high-rise telecom building in downtown Manhattan, a huge conference room with a bunch of white guys in black suits. Its Bob's turn to present his new marketing campaign. He gives a 15 minute presentation in Microsoft Power Point on why this company should bring back ALF. He convinces everyone in that room to fork over millions of dollars to bring back ALF. ALF! ALF? Then as everyone leaves the meeting, Bob stays behind to pack up the projector and his laptop. The boss leaves the room and sticks his head back into the conference room and says "Great Job Bob! You've done it again!" WTF?
- Why in Gods name doesn't McDonalds serve breakfast all day? To save money? Freshness? Come on, just have a side griddle with a few egg McMuffins sitting. Throw them in the microwave when they're ordered and you're good to go. Their sales would go through the roof! I would eat a sausage egg McMuffin everyday if I could. Especially the egg breakfast burrito. I would eat that for lunch...Are you with me?
- Top 10 things that make me happy (in no particular order) The Beatles, Sunshine, Dogs, Food, Trees, Swimming, Driving with the windows down, Pop-Sickles, and the Fall.
- Can anyone argue that the Fall isn't the best season? Not too hot, Not too cold. You can wear cool jackets, sweaters, jeans. Some days when it's sunny you can wear flip-flops, the smell of the leaves...Maybe it's just me.
- The most annoying element is wind. I hate wind. Rain and snow are tangible so I can understand. Heat? At least you think you're getting tan. But wind? It doesn't do anything but piss you off. At the beach it blows sand and makes it impossible to lay the towel down straight. At picnics it blows the paper plates and napkins everywhere. Gusts of wind just get me even more steamed; you never know when to be prepared. At least with a constant wind you can react accordingly.
- If I were a millionaire, I would have a brand new pair of socks to put on every day because nothing feels better then putting on a brand new pair of fresh socks.
- Does anybody really like cats? Or do they not have room for a dog?
/quietflower/ Cats are wonderful pets and companions, they have personality
- Most underrated drink in the history of beverages. Crush. I don't know where it went, but I haven't seen it around for about eight years. Is it under new management? New name? Bankrupt? Does anybody know?
- I usually stay away from politics; but I am tired of hearing people say President Bush was wrong for this, and he's wrong for that. When are people going to understand that the President of the United States (or most countries for that matter) is nothing but a puppet? I mean honestly, he is a spokesperson, nothing more. "Yeah but he ultimately has the final say." Yes you are correct, but he has 200 advisors telling him what to say. The last President of the U.S. that actually could influence what America did was probably FDR, and that's a stretch. I don't even like Bush, he is clearly not a great public speaker, but I do not place blame on him. I'm smarter than that. Place the blame on the correct people. "Taking the job as President you're taking on that responsibility; someone has to be accountable." Yes, taking on this role will ultimately have everything on your shoulders, but at least understand people, that it isn't one man. Does anyone know if Michael Moore is blaming Bush or the Administration? I hope he's intelligent enough to blame the Administration as a whole. Do you see my point?
- Sunglasses are the one accessory a woman can where to throw guys off. You don't need certain fitting jeans, you don't need a push-up bra, and you don't need toe-rings, sundresses or anything else...Sunglasses. We have no idea. A woman can have a nice figure and an absolutely terrible face, but soon as she throws on sunglasses - instant babe. Ladies, Writer Guy isn't that superficial just stating the truth. A woman who is not that attractive can wear sunglasses and come off as a model. What? You don't have little quirks about guys?

Hate is a strong word
I'll be the first to admit it, I hate Jessica Simpson. I was always taught that hate is "such a strong word" and "should never be used" except when referring to dictators like Stalin or Hitler - but I definitely hate her. "Yeah but she's hot!" Is she attractive? Depends. If I saw her on the street, yes, I'd probably look twice. However, in the words of Joey Tribbiani after spending 10 minutes with her I'd want to "tear off my arm just to have something to throw at her." Any guy that says intelligence is not desirable quality in a woman is either a.)lying b.)ignorant c.)a knuckle head.
What bothers me isn't the fact that she is not intelligent; there are plenty of people in this world that are dumb and I'll save that topic for another time. What really bothers me is the fact that she is playing the bimbo role.
When America did not know Jessica Simpson intimately she was a one, maybe two-hit wonder that sold many records during the boy-band/pop-girl era of the late 1990's-early 2000's. I mean who couldn't do that?
When Simpson's career seemed to be failing after 3 terrible albums what does she do? She invites MTV® to videotape her first year as a "Newlywed." I don't even have a problem with that, to me that’s a smart business move by Simpson and her husband.
Ok, now I'll explain why there is hatred. After her first season we see the true Jessica Simpson. Thinking "Chicken of the Sea" was actually chicken and not tuna, thinking Buffalo wings came from buffalo's etc. Good times. So what she's a bonehead, no biggie. Now she is seriously TRYING to say things that make people say "She's so dumb!" She's even doing commercials that reiterate that she is dumb. Alright! Enough already! We know you're not that bright, but quit shoving it down our throats, and quit pretending to be dumber then you are!
The scary thing is millions of teenage girls see a successful Simpson, wearing little clothing parading around a huge house showing that its ok to play the dumb, naive, bimbo role. That's not OK. They should be listening to people like India Arie, Norah Jones, and dare I say Mrs. Clinton? At least then they can grow up shadowing strong, independent women.
I don't know, I just hate the fact that someone who was on their way down the tubes started acting far less-intelligent that the original series portrayed. If she is making people look twice, she can't be that dumb....Think about it.

Taking a Break
With so much to do this month and a poor blogging record for the year, I am taking a break. Between moving and a busy summer schedule, I don't have the time to keep the site updated as often as I feel it should be updated. Once I have settled in a bit, I will return to posting regularly.
