Preparations

Everything is in place for the new year. My finances are in order, my yoga DVD purchased, and my list of things to do in the new year has been composed. I've also made a trip to the Salvation Army to drop off old clothes. If I had a single goal for the new year, it would be that I cook more meals. Maybe some day I will be motivated enough to add them to the website. Happy New Year!

Welcoming in 2003

For 2003, I have upgraded from blogger and switched web hosts.

2002 revisited:
1. switched from being an art director at fortune 10 to a web designer at a non-profit (very good move!)
2. got a bunch of digital toys: powerbook, fuji finepix a303, an hp photo printer
3. finally visited San Francisco (solo)
4. survived the sniper shootings
5. learned how to make pad thai (really great pad thai)
6. Oh yeah, and I turned 30, but it really wasn't that bad
7. learned more about wines, especially red zinfandels
8. finally made it NYC after many years (with Kevin)
9. Little Auguste introduced himslef to the world

I don't know what to do about Apple

I placed my first order on 10/28/02 and on November 29 I became the proud owner of a Powerbook. When I think Powerbook, I have visions of a super computer, indestructable, strong, sleek and powerful. It is now December 6 and I am sending my powerful, sleek, supposedly indestructable machine back to Apple. Why? Because it is broken. I noticed a few days ago that it wouldn't snap shut. With so much time on my hands yesterday with it being snow day, I decided to investigate. I cannot tell you how f***ing pissed off I was to find out that my 6 day old was now defective. Tomorrow I'll take her back to the store and am even thinking about leaving her there permanently. I really don't know if she is really worth all of the trouble.

Cold Day

On this day last year it was 75 degrees. Today it is 26 degrees and snowing. I had the pleasure of watching one of my neighbors shovel her way into a parking spot using a spatula. Anyone with that kind of ingenuity shouldn't be driving in the snow. Who knows what other clever little things she has thought up.

I have I mentioned that I am surly? I came to that conclusion last night along with the conclusion that although writing a daily blog is enjoyable, he really has no permanence. At least not like a written journal in my own handwriting, which I happen to like very much. I love journals and paper and cool pens and number 2 pencils. I also wonder if my writtens words just simply translate into blah blah blah when it comes to the end of the day.

Something About MJ

Something about Michael Jackson scares me. I remember when he was a superstar and no one compared to him. When it was cool to wear sequined gloves and high water black pants. When he was normal and brown. Now he is pale and plastic and his face is falling apart. From allegations of molesting children to dangling his son, Prince Michael II, outside a window, this man-child has shown the world that he is mentally incapable of living a normal life (outside of a bubble).

I want these for christmas. Just in case I want to listen to music at work or [gasp!] workout.

Dollar Weekend!

The weekend of December 14 and 15 is dollar weeknd in Baltimore. It's a great way to go visit the National (not Baltimore, but National) Aquarium on a very small budget. The only downfall is standing in line outside in the cold. The brisk wind blowing in from the Inner Harbor doesn't help. But, if you don't feel like standing outside, you can go ice skating or visit the American Visionary Art Museum, all for a dollar each per person. The museum is one of my favorites for the simple reason that it is the anti-classically trained artist museum, yet the work is phenomenal. You will see art that is both beautiful and disturbing at the same time. The exhibits constantly change, yet the quality of work is always stellar. Don't get me wrong, the artwork is done by real artists, it's just that some of these artists may also be truckers, or farmers, or patients in a mental ward. Anyway, it's worth checking out.

I wish DC had a really cool weekly email newsletter of things going on around town. I get a couple, but nothing ever looks as appetizing as what I found on Flavor Pill. Or maybe it's just that I long to live in San Francisco.

Bad Pad Thai

My pad thai didn't turn out very well last night. I guess all of those extra ingredients that I didn't have on stock like peanuts, chili paste, fish sauce and sprouts really do make for a better dish. It basically came out tasting like vinegar noodles, which is not a good thing.

I also figured out what happened with the 401k plan and everything is taken care of.

Just read something about google searches and bringing people to your site.

Frustation

I was going to update my 401k information today, only to find out there was nothing there to look at. Now I am aware that the funds were being exchanged and moved to another plan under the same company, but when your account says $0, that's cause for concern. Hopefully a call to the benefits office will fix everything. Hopefully.

fun
KeD and I hung out in Baltimore with my old friend Martina and her husband Saturday night and got sushi. Since all 4 of us had been subjected to 2 Thanksgiving dinners each, sushi was definitely the way to go. I must be getting old. The kids (and I mean that literally) at the coffee bar all looked about 12 and boy were they punked out. Either I have gotten accustomed to the cookie cutter people or I must have been as punked out as these kids when I used to frequent the Daily Grind.

happy anniversary
Today is my 2nd anniversary with KeD. Aside from making me breakfast this morning, we didn't celebrate today. We have plans for a Turkish dinner out tomorrow night. I love this restaurant because it looks like only 2 or 3 people work there at one time. I think one greets and waits tables, one cooks and one washes dishes. I don't know how they do it considering they have the best hummous and pita I've had in D.C. I can't decide if I want the stuffed chicken topped with bechamel sauce or kebab. Ohh, decisions, decisions.

food
In my search for the perfect pad thai recipe, I came across a recipe archive of dishes I that prepare on a regular basis. It's just a bitter reminder that I need to actually add my recipes to the site instead of salivating over the recipes of others.
