Ahh the Holidays
I read an amusing article on thanksgiving at The Guardian this morning. I am not a huge fan of the holidays which begin with thanksgiving and end at Valentines Day. I do however, look forward to St. Patricks day, a day when a glass of guiness is raised and millions around the world get drunk on green beer, pale beer, and of course, guiness.
Making good use of a day off and a clear sunny sky, I took some digital photos with my new Fuji Finepix A303. So far I have been very pleased with the results. After picking up a cup of the best coffee in the DC area at Misha's, I took off towards the Potomac River to take some shots of the National Monument.
I wanted to get aquainted with the camera since I'll be taking lots of family shots today, some at my parent's house and more at KED's mom's place. Yep, I will be dining twice today. Thank goodness the parents were understanding, because if you think I am going to stuff myself twice today, you've got to be kidding. Turkey, in all honesty, is my least favorite fowl and I LOVE to eat (just not that particular bird unless smoked and thinly sliced with swiss on rye).

Weird Things
I just finished reading about the cloned baby to be born soon. Some of the things happening in the world today are just plain scary. Living so close to NIH and all of the other medical research facilities just makes me wonder about the things we never hear about. Like the creation of a new life form. Supposedly it won't be able to survive outside of the lab.
"the cell will be deliberately hobbled to render it incapable of infecting people; it also will be strictly confined, and designed to die if it does manage to escape into the environment."
The fact that "the project could lay the scientific groundwork for a new generation of biological weapons, a risk that may force them to be selective about publishing technical details. But they said the project could also help advance the nation's ability to detect and counter existing biological weapons" means basically that civilization will end within the next couple hundreds of years. How can we possibly be expected to survive when so much research is done to destroy us?

Randomness
Over the past year I have been trying to organize my recipes into one nice little book. The only probelm is that I will have a stroke of genious in the kitchen - blackened salmon, smoked turkey and jarlsberg omlette, black beans and rice and I will forget to record it. For example, just the other day I made, ahhh now I remember, greek shrimp with feta (Garides Tourkolimano). It looks like I will need to add a cooking category to the site so I won't forget anything!
Stylesheets can be such a pain sometimes. Luckily the pain is worth the reward.
snow
There's much talk around the office about it snowing this evening. I for one am not overly excited at the prospect of snow. Maybe because I am driving north on thursday.
I have been good about avoiding this blog over the past week. Unfortunately, each time I read somthing witty written by another blogger, expecially those blogs accompanied by beautiful photographs, I long for my own blog to be as beautiful and witty. I was going to wait until I got my powerbook. But today I broke down, having been forced to open Homesite to create some templates, I instead began to alter my blog template.

Angry at Apple
I cannot fully express how frustating an experience it has been trying to order my ^%$&^ing computer. Somethimes I wonder if it is even worth the effort. As I write this I am sitting on hold, yet again. I think I have clocked in at least 80 minutes today and guess what? Still holding.

Minta's Online!
My attempts to order a G4 powerbook have been thwarted by Apple. All I wanted was a reliable computer. First I tried to change my shipping address which resulted in me having to call 2 toll free numbers and sit through lots of bad muzak waiting on hold. Then I get an other email yesterday stating computers aren't being shipping until the middle of December. Having anything shipped the weekend before christmas is just bad news. So I am PISSED!
virginia drivers
Still bad as ever. This morning it was a mom with her baby that cut me off. It's amazing how one can switch lanes while looking into the passenger seat and NOT THE OTHER LANE!
And a congratulations to Minta for getting her own weblog. Let's see if she actually updates it on a regular basis.

nova drivers
I had something really interesting to write, which is exciting, because I think most of what is written is just hot air. [but i forgot] But I do have some commentary on Northern Virginia drivers though.
Boston may have rude drivers. LA may have too many drivers. Northern Virginia has self-centered drivers who make up thier own rules as they drive. If you ask me, I am sure half of them purchased the licenses under the table. Life inside the beltway is crazy enough, but when you add the beamers and benzes that run you off the road, driving to work becomes more of a survival exercise than anything else. And a word to all of the suburban drivers, learn how to drive and PARK the vehicle before you take it out on the road.

Trick or Treat
Didn't have any trick or treaters last night. Well, what can you expect in such a transient neighborhood. If I had kids I certainly would let them out. SInce I woke up this morning, I have had a terrible feeling in my gut. Something is going to happen, I don't see how it couldn't. How else could I desscribe this feeling? I heard on TV last night that Grand Master J's death may have a link to DC. Go figure. I guess it was a couple of weeks ago I said to my roommate that we live in the epicenter of evil. This has not yet been proven otherwise.
